The Nordic Agroecology Education and Research Network launched with a successful kick-off meeting at SLU Alnarp (12–13 May 2026). Twenty-one participants from eight organisations discussed the network’s aims, student engagement, and plans for joint teaching, exchanges and a Nordic Agroecology Symposium.

We explored what distinguishes agroecology in the Nordic context and discussed the challenges and opportunities for a regional network. The meeting demonstrated strong interest in developing a collaborative platform to advance agroecology education, research and practice across the Nordic countries.

Agroecology MSc students and Raj Chongtam, Study Director for the Agroecology programme at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, attended the Nordic Permaculture Festival 2026 at Holma Folkhögskola in central Skåne.

The festival brought together people from across the Nordics to share practical knowledge and inspiration through workshops, talks, music, art and shared meals. Participants exchanged ideas and explored ways to create more resilient farms, organisations and communities.

Our first step in action: An SLU (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences) delegation visited future partner universities in Finland, Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK) and the University of Helsinki. These visits laid the foundation for future collaborations and represents the starting point of a strong and connected agroecology community across the Nordics.
